About Us
Environmental Contracting Corporation was formed by Aram Arakelian in 1984 to provide full general contracting services for interior and building renovation construction projects. The name Environmental was chosen to identify that we construct environments that people live, work, and play in. These assignments include law firms, accounting firms, trust companies, brokerage firms, academic universities, restaurant, technology firms, entertainment production and post production facilities.
Environmental's goal has always been to "make a difference" through leadership and innovative ideas that set higher standards which will improve the stature of the industry and provide community with the best service available. As an example, Environmental initiated the vigorous promotion of the concept that general conditions should be a firm value which is computed as a function of time rather than as a percentage of the project cost. Today this "win win" practice is the industry standard which represents substantial savings to the Clients.
As Los Angeles grew in the late 80's, so did Environmental's reputation for it’s on - budget, on - time completion and quality work performance. As early as 1987, Environmental was setting the pace within the industry.
The confidence of ECC's clients and the dedication of the entire Environmental staff have provided the means for Environmental to be among those contractors listed in the Engineering News Record Magazine's list of the top 400 contractors in the nation; and among the top 25 in the Los Angeles Business Journal. We are especially proud to be the recipient of the 1990 and 1992 Calibre Awards in the category of "Best Contractor". Since then the award has become a team award and we have been honored with several team awards. In addition, to our company awards, Aram has been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his personal contributions to the industry.
Environmental has also contributed to the community through education. To this end, Environmental collaborated with the Building Owners and Managers Association to define original Standard Work letter (published in the BOMA Journal); founded a scholarship program for design students through the IIDA; participated with community leaders in developing the LEARN program; and as a sponsor and participant in seminars regarding LEEDS, review of Work Letters, budgeting and cost control.
Environmental's success is a tribute to the dedication of every person at Environmental to make the difference. Through their understanding that interior construction has evolved into a myriad of services requiring an expertise not only in the techniques of fundamental construction, but also knowledge of new products, current code requirements, and sound cost control procedures. These skills, coupled with personal pride, commitment, and care for each project, as though it was their own, have enhanced Environmental's ability to service the needs of its clients.
A genuine partnership of Client, Architect, and Contractor will foster good planning with good decisions at the beginning of project, which will always lead to a successful within budget, on time, and quality project - the hallmark of Environmental's reputation.
The Approach:
Environmental is large enough to be a leader in our industry, but independent enough to do things the clients way. We customize our budgets, reports, and reporting systems to each client's particular needs.
